Even if you're not going to change to a water meter to
save money you should look at reducing the amount of water you use.

Save money on your water bills
Water Bills.
We all have them. Can we cut them? Yes we can!
Water bills - you can often pay less on a meter IF:
* you use very little water - ie: you shower not bath, you don't
wash the car or water the garden
* the property has a high rateable value - you'll have big water
bills.
* you don't have lots of people in your house.
You should be able to try a meter for 12 months and switch back
if you don't save money.
Water saving hints
- Turn tap off when you're brushing your teeth.
- Don't have a bath - have a shower
- Share the bath if you have one
- Look for appliances that use less water
- Don't empty the kettle before refilling it
- Get rain barrels for shed and garage gutters if you have a
garden you want to water
- Don't pressure wash outside paths, clean them with a brush
- Don't use a hosepipe to wash the car.
- Don't wash the car so often
- Don't have long showers. If you want to see how much water
you use (and you have a bath that you shower in, put the plug
in and see how deep the water gets!)
- Repair leaking taps quickly.
- Get a water hippo for the loo - this reduces the amount of
water on each flush!
Look on your water company website for these as they give them
away free!
- Don't flush it every time! (Be sensible though, there are
times when it should be flushed instantly!)
- Taps that aerate the water reduce the volume of water that
goes through them!
- Only use the washing machine and dishwasher when they're full.
These two appliances can use a lot of water between them!
- Time the shower. Make sure people don't stay in for ages.
- When you run the tap for cold water (or hot water) save the
water you run off. Use it for something else, either watering
the garden or washing your hands.
- Put a trigger on your hosepipe. Then when you use it you use
as little water as possible.
